This is my newly completed second beetle in a series to celebrate the artists who made the images I remember from the 1980's in Australia.  Jenny Kee is an Australian fashion designer famous for her bold knits, vibrant opal patterns and super red glasses.  I have tried to capture her essence in this insect with it's floral friend.  This bug is 35cm tall (about 14 inches) and is made in the sames vein as my first insect, using materials easily accessible in a bargain store - this time felt, wire, embroidery thread, and an ENORMOUS number of sequins.  I went crazy with these because if you are going to add sparkle, you gotta pump the dial right up to 11!

I hadn't used sequins in embroidery before, and I didn't really get a good flow until near the end (the small flat one's are way easier to use than those dish shaped one's).

Because most of the color on the beetle itself is on the back, I felt it needed more pop, so a matching Jenny inspired flower, mirroring her glasses, was necessary.  I gave it leaf-limbs you can pose, and really loud pink eye-shadow (well, it is the 1980's).

... it's very, very special because, if you can see, the numbers all go to eleven...

I like Kit-Kat, unless I'm with 4 or more people.

Wow, your creations are sensational! The shimmer of all the sequins and making them posable is very impressive. Great work!

Lovely work! That many sequins can not be easy to work with but it definitely paid off. Stunning.

Oh ya, that is awesomeness indeed!

This is bloody impressive! I tried embroidery with sequins several years ago and gave up after about two hours and less than a 2" square area. You've done a wonderful job, and I love the poseable companion flower.
