I've been working a bit in elder companion care and needed something to do with my hands while sitting with a client. I grabbed this random shirt because I didn't care if I messed it up, now I'm kind of wishing I'd done it on something nicer!

This was my reference image:

It took roughly 23 hours and it was a great project to bring with me because my client liked to see my progress. She would ask me to show it to her every half hour or so.

The stitches used are satin, chain, split, and long-and-short. Chain was pretty good for filling the space with color and texture. It also reminds me of the tiny scales on a moth's wing.

I haven't decided yet if I'm going to add more to the shirt, but I will definitely wear it as is!

Thanks for looking!  Cheesy

Beautiful! You must be so happy with how this turned out. I think more would be too much, it's just fabulous the way it is.

There's not much in this world that can't be improved by either chocolate, bacon or glitter.

Gorgeous work. I wouldn't think to use the chain stitch to fill in, but it worked perfectly!

Amazing winged insect!  I'm not going to pretend that I actually know what a chain stitch is, but I agree that the texture/pattern on the wings looks superb.

I had no idea the scale of your project, or that it was stitched on a shirt! The placement is genius, and I love as-is.

The story of your client wanting to see was charming. Very sweet.

This is truly fabulous, and I have to differ about doing it on a better shirt. The fact that something as gorgeous as this has chosen to alight on this humble denim shirt elevates it into something else entirely.

And I love the use of chain stitch as a filler. It really is perfect here. I'm a big fan of chain stitch - much undervalued. Of course I'm a lazy stitcher, and it does tend to cover a lot of ground quickly, without requiring as much attention to detail as some other stitches!
