So if you go into my history you’ll see that I made my prom dress back in 2011. 2018 I decided to get back into my beloved hobby. I decided this just before Christmas. Honestly the best way to get back into sewing is with PJs. So I decided to make a set for my long time best friend. I learned a few things. But first the actual garment.

I used Simplicity 3971 View C

I learned that pattern companies hate fat women. I took forever to find a pattern that would accommodate her.

I also learned that flannel kind of sucks to sew and isn’t just a softer version of quilting cotton.

I learned that top stiching can lead to disaster.

But I also learned that there is a lot of pride to be felt finishing a project and that all the beauty is on the details.

I sewed sweets themed buttons to button (obvs) and to hold down the collar.

Then added bias tape to clean up the look.

This was a decent segue back into the craft. Expect to see more posts from me hopefully!

Those look great! Your addition of tailor's tape to finish the inside edge is genius. Love the buttons!
I like cotton flannel but it can be warpy & stretchy to work with. A little thin non-woven fusible interfacing can be helpful but my best tip is to steam press as you go & use a walking foot.

Nice to see you, thanks for sharing Smiley.

Those are ADORABLE! No wonder she looks so joyful! I have sewn a few things with flannel and boy is there a broad variety of quality out there and boy does it make a difference when sewing with it!

Now I'm off to find that prom dress post you mentioned...

Oh are these ever the CUTESTTTT jammies!   Such sweet fabric, and they look so comfy.  Your bestie has an awesome bestie!

You are absolutely right about certain pattern companies being skimpy and narrow minded.  I've found Simplicity to be misnamed.
