I was thinking and I looked but I didn't see anything that matched...

Has anyone done a swap where the end craft is random. (i'm not even sure if that makes sense.. Huh)  I guess it would be like the ATC swaps where I would set up my list of themes but the craft that is produced in that theme is up to the artist/any medium (paper, stitched, clay, etc...) Would anyone be interested in trying it?

That sounds like an interesting idea, and like a twist on the OTT (one tiny thing) or Surprise swaps we've had in the past.

What if the participants provided both some themes and some broad item categories?

For example a swapper could have:

My three item categories are:
Winter wearables (hat, scarf, gloves, etc.)
Plush
Household decorations

My three themes are:
Woodland creatures
Space
Warm colors

So for this person a partner could make a pair of fox mittens, or a quote block that has a Carl Sagan or Neil Armstrong quote on it. I feel like that'd give partners enough to go on while still making the end result more of a surprise. And of course when you add in the standard questions of dislikes/allergies (like maybe this person hates wool) that'd give you more info you you can make something they'd really enjoy.
