Dear all, for years I've been making this shampoo bar from a Tutorial here on Craftster: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=307408.20
It works great, I got skin allergies, but this stuff is magic, I use it as shampoo, soap, anything. I pass it on to people with sensitive skin, everybody loves it.
But: I would like to replace the palm oil with something. Not tallow, veggie here.
What exactly is vegetable shortening? Flora I can't believe it's butter? surely not!?
what alternatives are there with similar properties?

Any help greatly appreciated Smiley

I found this link of palm substitutes.
Veg shortening is just that. Veg oil, usually hydrogenated to make it solid. I wouldn't eat it but maybe that's ok for topical use.

I switched to vegetable shortening years ago! Mine is primarily soy, so I just run the recipe through a soap calculator replacing the palm with soybean oil to make sure I've got the correct amount of lye.

Could you use cocoa butter and if so how would you alter the amount... or keep the same?  I want to try to make this soon!  Thanks for the link
