I think you are going to agree with me that this is an amazing artist. I mean, wow. The amount of HOURS put into hand piecing this project alone is unreal but then the lovely slow stitched quilting just puts it all so far over the top that I just. can't. even. Her name is Judy Martin, she's from a magical place called Manitoulin Island. If you haven't heard of it, I can't help you.

This is, I think, a heavier cotton backing covered over with a more sheer sort of cotton with reverse appliqued velvet shapes, the velvet is hand dyed with intense but variegated colours.

Here's a close up of the applique.

And the quilting. This is the central motif. The rest of the piece is filled with that tiny little cross hatching, I'm pretty sure it's just ordinary sewing thread, it's so fine.

It was displayed at the World of Thread exhibit in Oakville, Ontario and this was one of MANY of her pieces in the exhibit. I mean, I feel like I saw 10 years of sitting and stitching represented in what was there and I could tell it was only a fraction of her creations. I am awed and humbled. And then I LOOKED HER UP. Holy cats, what the ever loving? I feel like Jon Snow, I know nothing.

Right? One day I am going to go and visit the place where she lives. I really hope she will be there. Just amazing.

The muted color pallet is beautiful, but all the hand stitching? Gah!

I can't quite get the scale. Was it large (or an actual bed) or smaller wall piece?
