Children were each given a set amount of dollars to scrounge a costume together at the thrift shop. Boy child blew almost his entire budget on a prefab hat and ears, the ears were promptly lost so then he had just the hat. We got to the day before Halloween and all of a sudden the enthusiasm he'd had for night of fun adventure with his buddy dissolved into a pile of soggy Meh. Sigh. Every year I tell them not to come to me at the last minute for help.

Hat by Value Village. Vest is a large shirt cut and taken in to fit. There's a green shirt underneath and the sleeves are cut from a wool sweater I dismantled and just happened to still have those piece intact. They're stitched to the shirt as an extra layer. Belts raided from closets, the shield brace is brown felt sewn to the belt. Overboots are brown felt, cut and hot glued. There's an elastic holding the uppers in place on the foot, it goes under the shoes. He's not wearing a mask, I just covered his face with a sticker since I don't usually share photos of the kids online. The expression he's making is aaaalllll him though Cheesy.

Shield is cardboard covered with tinfoil. I sketched out the design and he filled it in with sharpie marker. I think it turned out really well, all things considered. I couldn't find white leggings so he is wearing jeans.

It's not fancy but not bad for a couple of hours on the evening of the 30th.

I agree! I'm sure we all appreciate the finely crafted, super fancy handmade costumery, but Halloween for kids is all about the charms of cobbling together a recognizable facsimile of something they care about RIGHT NOW... and then having a bunch of fun and getting a bunch of candy! This Link is GREAT!

That's the perfect costume, and no one would ever guess it was last-minute.

Thank you all! The kids had fun, that's all that really matters in the end. Oh, and chocolate. Of course, they got so much of it there was lots for mama, yay!
