This is another patch that I made for Wulf in the last round of the Yet Another TM Patch Swap. Because it was the 10th round, we were supposed to incorporate the number 10 in some way, so I decided on 10 ants. I made the bodies with 3 seed beads each, and stitched the legs. They looked weird, so I kept adding details. Next I added their mandibles, then added some crumbs (French knots) for them to carry (with additional food bits on the patch). I still didn't love the way the ants looked. I realized that they needed antennae, but didn't know how to make them stick out properly. I did some searching and found a tutorial for whiskers, and used the same idea. I coated the ends of several single strands of embroidery floss with glue and let them dry on a piece of wax paper. Then, I stitched each single antenna onto the first bead of the ant body. Repeat 19 more times, then trim them down to size. Only then was I happy with the little ants!

I love this one so much. I added seed bead ants to the cover of an altoid tin years ago but they didn't look nearly as realistic as yours. I'd been wanting to do it again and had a chance recently and when I saw your brilliant patch I absolutely copied your fabulous crumb idea. They are so fun looking.

Thanks so much! I seriously meant it when I said I didn't love them until the antennae were added. They looked like squashed, deformed spiders! I'm happy to have inspired you  Cheesy

Thanks a bunch! I was so glad when it finally came together to match the vision in my head. And, you're right, seed bead ants are much better that the real thing Smiley
