I made two different houses for the Chunky Houses Halloween Edition. I was super excited to do this swap! I've been craving some papercrafting in my life. Little did I know "chunky house" is some sort of style that, in my opinion is not too chunky. After spending a LOT of hours working on these houses the first couple days after we got partners I wandered off into previous galleries for this swap and realized 99% of people were making flat house fronts. It's my fault for not researching this "chunky house" business....buuuuut my partners were super kind and understanding and had no issue receiving my kind of 3D house. Wink

HOUSE #1: The Jazz Cat Haunted Mansion

My partner irid3sc3nt had mentioned she really liked vintage Halloween and mentioned Beistle in her questionnaire. I didn't know who/what that was so when I started researching and looking at different artwork I was inspired by these music-playing cats! More of her likes I included: vintage Halloween, the colors (black, orange, purple), jack-o-lanterns, witches, spiders, vintage Halloween poem (like those found on postcards).

  • I used a Silhouette file for my base design but edited the house on my computer so I could create a stage for the cats.
  • Edited/resized different cut files for the stage curtains, fence, and windows before I had them cut.
  • All construction is double layered cardstock glued together
  • It has a cut out on the bottom to insert a tea light candle so all windows were lined with vellum. I used part of a clear vinyl scrapbook that had spiderwebs on it on the inside of the big window so when the light was on it would cast a shadow through the window. I also put a spider embellishment in the upstairs window so a spider shadow would be cast as well.
  • All art/clip art type embellishments are fussy cut and adhered with adhesive foam so they'd "pop" out a bit and give more depth.

Here's more pictures since I know that's whatcha came for:

I was so proud of myself for including so many things my partner liked in the house I joked with my husband that the only thing this house was missing was music. (Because the jazz cats, right?) That's when we came up with the idea for this:

I used QR codes for videos in my scrapbooking all the time so I included one to link to a jazzy-vintage-weird Halloween music/video I found.  Grin (If anyone's curious, thiswas a the music.)

And if you'd like to see it all lit up here's a super quick video!

Thanks for checking things out!

Awesome little house for your feline musicians to dwell in!  My neighbors would doubtlessly hate it, but I'd love it if my house was painted black and covered with a skeleton pattern, year-round.  The code for the music was a neat idea too.
