Our church does a craft fair the weekend before Thanksgiving. This year they are having a Rainbow booth. All things rainbowish. Last year I did tutus (very popular and someone is making more for this year) and rainbow fleece hats.

This year I decided to make some quick rainbow wands. Only to be used for doing good in the world and very needed these days. I did full rainbow and pastel rainbow. These were very quick to make and should be a fun little gift for the stocking.

A tut follows

  • Ribbon in rainbow colors
  • 1/4" or 3/16" dowels (or thicker) or chopsticks or plain old sticks from the yard
  • Sparkly heart or star foam stickers, or cut your own from thick paper
  • Glue - I used E6000
  • Duct tape or any tape
  • Stapler

I cut the ribbon to 12" and then stapled in threes, red/orange/yellow and green/blue/purple. This held the ribbons together.
I used white duct tape, but any good sticky tape would work, and added the two groups of three ribbons side by side on the tape. Excuse the funky coloring...camera played tricks with me.

Then wrapped around the dowel.

The foam shapes were peel-n-stick, but the sticky part did not hold well, so I had to peel, add glue and place one on each side of the top of the dowel. handling sticky items and trying to put more glue on them was a bit...well....sticky.

They went fast, I was happy with the results and should bring in some $$$ for our church.

There's not much in this world that can't be improved by either chocolate, bacon or glitter.

I made something similar with curling ribbon, but I like your version better. I think I'll remake it with that softer ribbon (not sure what the term is) and add the foam star or heart on the top. Thanks for the idea!
