I'm sure a lot of people are familiar with Calico Critters (Sylvanian Families to the rest of the world), especially if you have kids around.  if you don't know what they are, they're these little flocked(?) anthropomorphic animals, ranging from several cat breeds to red pandas.  they come in family sets, and baby sets and singles.  and there are SO many sets you can purchase for them as well (bubblegum_phoenix has been blasting my FB feed and posts with lots of holiday sets for Christmas and Halloween  Cheesy ).  I didn't feel like buying any of those house sets or anything since it's for me and I won't be playing with them (but now I want all of the Halloween sets), so I made my own display for them!

I mixed all of the colors I used with white paint to give them a pastel look.  bright and dark colors just weren't going to do it.  the tiny letter blocks were cut from a small square dowel, and the letter block feet were store bought.  I painted them all white, then hand painted letters on each one.  I drew a music sheet and a couple of scribbles (kinda hidden under the colored pencils), and cut a "square" of felt for my little kitten to sit on.  the rest I got from Michaels.

it wasn't exactly what I had in mind, but the box I was originally going to use isn't carried by Michaels anymore, and I couldn't find one like it anywhere else.  but I'm still really happy with how it turned out.  the finished piece is 7.5in x 4.25in

I don't own any (although I've been tempted more than once), but I'm pretty familiar with the Sylvanian Family/Calico Critters toy franchise form online toy reviews/blogs I frequent.

Lovely little environment for your adorable little flocked friends to inhabit, and, since it's rectangular, you could make more and stack them in different arrangements, in a modular fashion, if you so chose.

thanks, TheMistressT!

Pataw, that is a great idea!  This would probably have to stay a base piece, though, due to the letter block legs.  but I do have a couple of other sets I want to buy...
