Hogwarts will once again host "Iron Chef Hogwarts" this semester! Each month a new secret ingredient will be revealed. All Hogwarts students who prepare a dish containing the secret ingredient will earn the secret ingredient badge displayed below and receive points for your house!

Iron Chef Hogwarts challenges now earn House Points ON THEIR OWN!  That's right. You no longer have to combine them with another prompt in order to earn points. Just submit them as a normal class or challenge, making sure to include the challenge food in the header. Here's an example:

Challenge: Iron Chef - Lentils
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Lentil Salad
Brief Description: I made this fantastic lentil salad to take to a bonfire on the beach...

*Thanks to Mistress Jennie for providing this sparkling example!

The Secret Ingredient for January is...

Almonds are way more than just a nutritious snack. The nut is packed with protein, fiber, and healthy fat, making it the perfect addition to any dishbreakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Previous Iron Chef Challenges

NOTE: All secret ingredients are chosen at random from a list of ingredients that have been actual Iron Chef secret ingredients on the US muggle television show. That being said, if you are allergic to any ingredient posted, you may still enter and earn your badge IF you choose a recipe that is traditionally made with the secret ingredient but substitute that single ingredient with an allergy-safe version. Please call out any substitutions in your post. Only substitutions based on allergy or other health-related dietary restrictions will be accepted. Thank you for your cooperation!

"Once youve arrived inside Gryffindor Tower, come inside and be welcomed by the roaring fire, stuffed armchairs, and the great view we have from our windows. Our dormitories are reached by climbing the winding mahogany staircase, decorated with crimson and gold. As I said, there's plenty of gold around the tower. Our four-posters are covered with thick scarlet blankets (we have quite windy nights up in the towers) and are embroidered with gold. Gold chandeliers cast warm glows all around."

Get yourself a cuppa and settle into a squashy armchair. Isn't the common room the most cosy place on earth this time of year? I have a good feeling about our Gryffindors this term. I invite you all to focus on our house symbol as we work through this season - the lion.

Some facts about lion symbolism. See what might resonate with you this time in your life:

  • As a spirit animal - Lions often appear to a person who needs to reclaim their space and take back a leadership role in life. A lioness teaches you how to care for your pride and get your family working more cooperatively.
  • As a totem animal - If the lion is your totem animal you face challenges head on, are cunning and have the strength to outlast the competition, and make the best leaders. They have the courage to make whatever changes are necessary to protect the pride.
  • As your power animal - Being ready for trouble, but not seeking it out. Doing what is noble and right with conviction. Disrespect is not in the lion's vocabulary, let alone the word "quit".
  • The lion's sacred triad of character traits: honor, respect, and gratitude.
  • Native American Lion Meanings - A mountain lion is a symbol of a wise leader who knows his intention and leads with confidence. The Hopi revere the lion as a great hunter who is strong and fearless in the face of any challenge. The Navajo consider the lion spirit a guardian and protector.
  • Lion Dreams - Seeing a lion in a dream may portend an upcoming change in your role to that of a leader or teacher, leading with dignity.
  • Astrology/Zodiac - The zodiac sign of Leo is a Lion. (July 21-August 21) Everything about their personality is BIG. When using powers for good Leos are saint like but the lion's negative personality traits are every bit as big as everything else about them.

Let's focus on the lion this term and see what we can accomplish! Work hard and ye shall be rewarded! Your one-and-only Head of Household is designing and making an awesome GRYFFINDOR LION BADGE for you to show off your Gryffindor pride for all to see! One of these badges shall be yours (sent promptly by Owl Post) if you complete the following this term:

  • Demonstrate your lion pride by incorporating lion symbolism into one of your projects. For example, something that demonstrates that you can care for your pride like a lioness, or face a challenge head on by completing a difficult or complex project.
  • Completing 10 projects this term! They may include classes, challenges, quidditch, ect.

(This is a Gyrffindor only challenge so you may attach it to a class you're already submitting or you may complete a project on its own for this challenge but it will not receive any house points. Please make sure to indicate in the header that it's for this challenge.)

Let's Go Gryffindor!

Welcome To Hufflepuff House!

Can't remember if you've crafted for a particular prompt?
Wondering how many Floos we've completed as a house this term?
Check out Hufflepuff progress here.

HPC Bingo
How it works: Find your house's board below.  When you post a craft that fulfills one of the prompts below, mark off that square.  Once you reach five in a row (down, across, or diagonally) create a post with a pic of your board marked off (screen cap or actual pic will do) and make a list below of what crafts fulfilled each prompt to claim your fabulous prize.  Crafts completed and posted between now and January 10th are eligible.

(This is something of an experiment, so if things need to be clarified please let me know)

The boards are also available as a google doc if that is easier to use: [link]
