I made a Steampunk costume several years ago and I have worn variations of it for various Halloweens, Trunk or Treats, and Steampunk themed events. This year our Imagine Mainstreet/Strollin on Main Street event in our town for Sept. 6th was a Steampunk theme. I didn't want to wear the complete costume as it will be over 90 degrees and humid. I wanted to wear pants, so I whipped up a set of spats and finally finished the goggles I started last year. One UFO down!

I also have a rule of making costumes out of whatever I can find in stash with minimal purchasing...usually from thrift shops and dollar stores. Hardly authentic, but sort of like a scavenger hunt.

The goggles are two canning jar lid rings, painted and distressed, plastic and amber film insets, and the obligatory gears/clocks/compass glued on. You can't see a thing through them, so they will be a forehead ornament.

The spats were made from rip-stop polyester/cotton legs of pants I made into shorts. Hey, the pants were on sales and quite a bit less than the shorts...go figure.

Some brown felt trim, more gears/clocks/compasses for fake buttons (Victorians used velcro right?).

There's not much in this world that can't be improved by either chocolate, bacon or glitter.

These turned out so well! And now I need a goggles headband, which I didn't previously know I needed.  Cheesy
