My brother-in-law is finally marrying his fiance this summer, and I wanted to make something special for her bridal shower. We are planning to give them a gift for the wedding, of course, (or maybe just cash)  so I thought I'd do something more personal for the shower.

I wanted something pretty, but still useful, and eventually landed on a handkerchief. I also figured I'd be able to use some of my enormous stash of embroidery floss (I was gifted the remaining inventory from a craft store that closed) for the design. I'm really into Elizabetta Sforza's floral embroidered monograms, but unfortunately didn't have the time to get her book (which I will definitely do one day). Luckily, I'm not too bad at drawing, so I designed my own monogram with peonies & monk's hook - the bride's favorite - along with canola and Saskatoon berries to represent where we live (our province is famous for growing canola and wheat, and we live in Saskatoon).

Here's some progress photos:

And here's the finished handkerchief:

I always like seeing the back of projects, so here's the back side too:

And, if you were curious, this is the penny pocket I made:

My Mom told me that in filipino culture (I'm hapa) you're supposed to keep a container of rice and money in the corner of your house so that you never run out of money or food. The bride's maiden name is Penny, and I thought it would be cute to put a small pocket with a single grain of rice and a penny. It's held in place with a couple stitches so that the penny and rice can be removed if the handkerchief needs to be washed.

Such a beautiful gift!  And I really like the meaning behind the different flowers.  Smiley

Oh my, it's just beautiful. Your stiches  are amazing, especially how neat they are on the back.

There's not much in this world that can't be improved by either chocolate, bacon or glitter.
