I bought this SVG kit online and man, was it just one big learning moment after another. I had intended this to be the box in which I send the nieces these back-to-school gifts, but there is no way this thing would withstand shipping. Plus, I just don't think the result is up to my gift-giving standards. Sigh. Nonetheless I spent HOURS AND HOURS on it, so I am going to share it here.

Despite all the challenges, mistakes, inherent "flaws" in the kit, etc., it does have many cute details.

The little side mirrors that I found mirror paper for!

The little stop sign; they had your writing "STOP" on there, but I tried stamps with embossing powder. I added some dimensional glaze stuff to all the lights.

Here's the box bit. The directions have you using little magnet strips to keep it closed and in place. I'm not going to put them on since I'm not giving the box afterall. I don't think it's strong enough for the gifts I made it for anyway.  Sad

I'm not saying I wouldn't try another SVG kit by this maker, but not one nearly so complicated. This thing has at least 67 pieces!

Its pretty cute (but it looks like its in need of some eyes on those windows... I think Im channeling a Pixar film), and the details are great!

Hopefully, you can use it for something (a PSA on why its important to stop for the school bus... I think you need to try stop motion animation Smiley )!

HAHA! I don't think this thing would hold up to making even a few seconds of a stop-motion animation!  Shocked

It's crazy cute! I can see how it would have taken ages to make.
Maybe elements could be cut & pasted to a box to embellish it. It wouldn't be quite the same but it would still be super unique & amazingly fun Smiley.

Thanks, all!

I don't regret the time spent, as I did learn things, but this is definitely one of those times when one just needs to walk away.

I think that's a pretty awesome 3-dimensional papercraft school bus.  The form/build looks good to me and I think it's cool that it actually has a pull out drawer in the back so that you can store stuff inside.  Maybe if you'd used stronger/thicker cardstock you'd have been happier with the results/sturdiness?

Ooh, it IS so cute!  How big is it?

Bummer, it's so flimsy. Sad  What were you going to put in it?

Thanks everyone!

It would likely be stronger, but it would also be that much more of a PITA to assemble, I think. Also, one would have to special order such (at least in my market) and trust a computer screen for colors! Having built a few other almost-as-complicated projects, I think it would benefit more from other forms of strengthening. All that said, this thing uses A TON of paper and I would be surprised if I ever decided to make another.

Ooh, it IS so cute!  How big is it?

Bummer, it's so flimsy. Sad  What were you going to put in it?

I was going to put these back-to-school gifts in it.
