Since the rock painting challenge is in full swing on Craftsters now I decided to do a little post on Lana's second rock painting event.

Back in April 2018 she led a rock painting event for Global Youth Service Day (GYSD), the largest day of youth service.  It was a hit with young and old alike!  The rocks were distributed around the community to brighten people's day.  Smiley  You can read about it here:
https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=454811.msg5487694#msg5487694

This summer the organizer of Lunch and Learn, a low-income camp, asked if Lana/Small Things Matter would come and lead some art activities for their campers (1st-4th graders).  They didn't have the funds to help pay for the supplies and had over 100 campers.  Lana decided that rock painting would be a fun and affordable way to spread kindness.

Lana met with the kids in small groups and shared the mission of STM...kid-powered kindness for those in need.  She told them how STM engages children to craft for other children in need by making monster stuffies to be donated to children's hospitals and about our literacy program which provides new books to underserved youth.

The kids had a great time with their creations. Some of the kids agreed to abandon their rocks for others to find while others wanted to keep their rocks. Smiley The kids also colored bookmarks to go along with our book giveaways and were happy to be helping others!

Lana and Ms. Doris, Asst. Director of Lunch and Learn.

Lana had a great time and they invited her to come again next summer.  This time they want her to lead a crafting event for their entire camp!  ACK!

This is wonderful!
I wish I could go back in time, be Lana's age again and go out there with her.
Way to go, Lana!

Thank you Bea!  I wish you lived next door to us.  Lana would be over at your house all day long learning how to craft under a true master!
