Details of swap:

* Make one gelli printed journal for your partner that is around 5"x7".
Since the "standard" size gelli plate is 8"x10", plan for the journal you make to be around 5"x7".  You can adjust a little in either direction.
This video shows how to make a gelli print journal. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=33iQ-IqyGrk
But the basic idea is you gather a bunch of Gelli prints the same size, fold them in half so the print is on the inside, then use double sided tape (could use glue probably ) and stick the folded pages together.
* The requirement will be to use a minimum of 15 gelli prints for the pages plus a front and back cover.
* If you choose to, you can added extra ephemera/pages/etc to the journal but just remember the point it to make a journal out of gelli prints - not a junk journal.
* Do not do any actual journaling or doodling, leave that up for the recipient to decide what they will do with the journal they receive.

We will not be listing themes for this swap in order to give everyone some artistic license in making their journals. Please be open to wherever the muse takes your partner and give yourself freedom to play and create ART!! But please keep in mind your partner's absolute dislikes on the questionnaire. And even though we are not listing themes, take the time to look at your partner's profile or pinterest, etc. to see what kinds of things they may like.

Please Note:
1. PMs should be labeled "Gelli Print Journals" with the appropriate action - Signup, send, receive.
2. Make an item that you would like to receive. Do your best work.
3. I reserve the right to refuse anyone who has a history of poor communication, late sending, or not meeting swap requirements in any other ways.
4. Please post in the thread regularly so we know you're still around and kicking; also please communicate upfront with your partner and organizer if there may be/are any issues with late sending. Communication will be noted in feedback.

That sounds like a good idea.  I've made a lot of stencils using my cricut and heavy scrapbook paper where I didn't like the pattern.  for some designs it works ok and some not so ok.  Smaller stencils seem sturdier than larger ones.

I want to make some hot glue stencils just because it looks like fun.

Now I'm thinking we should have included some homemade stencils and masks in this swap but I've already posted it.  Maybe next time!

Okay, true confession time. I bought another gel plate today - Artists and Craftsman art store was having a sale on Speedball items and the 8" x 10" plate was 40% off - only $18. I thought I could channel Carolyn Dube with two plates and make double the prints.

Alas - it's not so great.

The first few pulls were awesome - I was just using one color of paint and making some backgrounds to try out some hand-cut stencils. On cheap-o copy paper, the prints were shiny and smooth - like when you print on high-quality paper.

I use all kinds of paint - I bought some Sergeant student-grade acrylics today also, only $1.49 a piece; but I also use DecoArt craft paints, Ranger paint dauber paints, and Golden fluid acrylics.

When I used the Golden Quinacridone Magenta, it stained the plate. And no amount of scrubbing removed it. Ugh.

The second pulls were not successful either - the paint seemed dry and doesn't pull up like it does on the Gelli Arts plate.

Oh, well. Live and learn.

Okay, just read some reviews and it is recommended that you use inks and fluid acrylics. One reviewer had the same experience as I did with craft paint and heavy body acrylics.

I do like the heft and feel of the plate - but I think the Gelli Arts plate is the best.
