I'm lucky enough to get to share some soda firings this summer... the first kiln only had some of my ugly "experiments" because I wanted to learn the process and see results before trying anything bigger or more complex, but so far, I think the soda firing has been fun!

These are amazing! I especially love the "lumpy" second one. Smiley

Cool pieces, my favorite is the third vase, whose swirls suggest gusts of wind or ocean waves to me.  The unusual shape/texture of the second sample is intriguing as well.

Smmarrt - Its a firing process in which we have to spray soda ash (sodium carbonate or bicarbonate solution) into a kiln when it reaches its high temperature (around 2200 or 2300 Fahrenheit). It creates a glaze on its own or interacts with glass glazes on the pottery.

Kwality570 - Thanks! I kind of like the lumpy one too. I didnt like it so much before the soda fire, haha!

They turned out beautifully. We have a few pieces of what must be soda fired pottery based on how yours look. I think the orange hue and sometimes crackle effect are some of my favourite glazes.
