I don't need no instructions to know how to rock.

I made a large 20-sided die for Smeddley in the recent Nerd Games Swap.

I used my 60 triangle template to make all the side pieces for the icosahedron, which worked out great.

I really wanted it to have a true shape, and not go all circle-y, so the sides are reinforced with 71F Peltex.  I debated heavily whether to do the seams on the inside or outside, because I knew I wouldn't be able to turn it out perfectly with such a stiff interfacing.  But I decided to do them on the inside anyway, for aesthetics.  I only broke/bent 10 sewing machine needles making it.  Cheesy  Seriously.  It was a BEAST!

It's stuffed with an entire bag of poly fill, plus I crinkled up one of those big blue Ikea bags, and used that as the center.  It helped fill up space, and give it a bit of a crunchy sound, which...added bonus!  I did my best to hand sew the opening with a ladder stitch, but it was difficult, to say the least.  The thread kept breaking because of all the thick layers.  My hope is people will delight at the largeness, whimsy, and novelty of it, and not look too closely at all the individual stitches.  Cheesy

The numbers are flocked heat transfer vinyl that I cut with my Silhouette.

Here it is with the other things I sent for size reference.  I think it ended up being about 12" or so across, at the widest parts.  That is a covered composition book and chap stick next to it.

I am pretty happy with how it turned out, especially since I was making it all up as I went along.  That's just how I roll.  Haha.  Tongue

I can imagine how hard it was - I would have given up in frustration!  But it is so awesome and I love it!  Thank you so much!

I am going to take it to our next gaming night and roll that puppy at least once... Cheesy  Then it will probably be banned from the table for some silly reason like knocking everything over and taking up too much room... ;p

You did a great job!  I know how difficult that peltex is to sew...wow...that is a lot of needle breakage!

Thanks, everyone!

It rolls surprisingly well!  Cheesy  I had fun rolling it down the hallway a few times...quality testing, you know?!

To be fair, I was using my cheapo machine instead of my high speed straight stitch machine.  That would have probably handled it a bit better, but it's boxed up and waiting to move to a new craft room, so I made do.  It was pretty much every "point" on the die where I was having to make it through 6+ layers.  Totally worth it, though!

I failed my saving throw and your plush polyhedron creation dazzled me for 3D6+5 minutes (and then, while I was distracted, I was devoured by an opportunist Gelatinous Cube)! I've never seen a stuffed die before that wasn't six-sided, so, this is pretty impressive and looks/sounds like it was a tough thing to accomplish; great job!
