I've been trying to come up with good ideas for an advertisement photo. I recently paid a girl $20 to help me make one. After seeing the work, I'm thinking I might have just blew $20 and won't sell a single thing with this ad.

Do you guys have any ideas on how I could do better?

What kinds of items are you specifically trying to sell?  Dragons are known to hoard treasure, but, otherwise, it's kind of ambiguous as to what you're offering for sale.  Perhaps you could place some small photos of the merchandise that you're offering inside of the chest instead of the generic coins and gems, or replace the chest altogether with a pile of your wares?

It's almost too late for that. I did throw a piece of silk under the chest. I told her to put it in the chest but she set it under it.
I think the curtains would be good for displaying products. This is the revision I got when I requested one.

It looks to me like the girl that you hired is just using generic clip art and not putting a whole lot of effort into it.   Since you're selling silk, maybe you could just replace the treasure chest with the silk alone, or a pile of fabric rolls?  And, unless you're married to the idea of using the dragon and the treasure quote, perhaps a woman wearing or holding a piece of silk up might be better?  I agree that the drapes will work with just about anything.

I did a Google search for free clip art.

Perhaps something like this would look nice in the background?

And, I don't know if you like cats or not, but these vintage Corticelli silk kittens are adorable:

And here's an example of women with fabric:

Or you could even go cuter with the dragon theme and pick one in a dress like so:

It's up to you, but there are hundreds of great, and free, images online that you can choose from that would be applicable to silk.

Thanks. I don't think she put much effort into it. I just plopped $20 into this bedding advertisement. It brought people in but didn't sell any unfortunately. The $20 last a little over an hour. I'm going to have to find more ways to advertise.

That bedding photo is certainly more attractive than the dragon clip art and I think that represents your product a lot better too.

I'd recommend downloading the art software "GIMP"; that's what I use.  It's like Photoshop except it's completely free.  With that, you could add text to your photos, create your own advertisements, etc. and you wouldn't have to pay anybody to make them.  Depending on your skill level with art programs, it might take a little while to learn, but, I think you'd find it very useful in the long term as it's very versatile.

I did a video on my facebook page. It uses some stock photos and features the "Beach Boys- 409" song.

well I wanted to use beach boys music but turns out I can't without paying royalties. I need to find out how much that will cost and where to pay.
