Hi - I've been away from craftster for awhile, but I hope it's ok to ask for suggestions my first time back  Smiley

I started (acrylics) painting not too long ago, and I'm a little stuck on this one. It still needs flowers on the branches  but before I do that, the branches look spooky to me. Any suggestions to make them less spooky?

I would suggest that you put more curve to your branches...some of them are pretty straight, which might make them look "weaponry"...I would also use a smaller brush and add some twig branches to some of the larger branches...make them small, thin and wispy...The sun/light looks pretty intense, so I would lighten up the top of the branches with more highlights...some brown with white..

I think once you add your flowers and leaves, it will look a lot less scary!

Have fun and enjoy the process...

I would agree that once you add some flowers it'll probably look a lot less spooky.   Darker colors tend to be ominous--adding more reflected highlights like alwaysinmyroom suggested would probably lighten the atmosphere up too.  You could try adding some wildlife too, like birds or insects.

It looks so bright and spring-like now!  Reminds me of my lilacs that are just getting ready to bloom...love the highlights on the branches...I hope you will continue to paint and share your works...art is joy!
