I was inspired to make this bag after a friend asked for a wallet. I started brainstorming and thinking of how to take the wallet design and translate it into the bag. I ended up going with the Swoon Lola (one of my favorites) and giving it that feel of an old briefcase with the accent corners and handles. I used a great olive drab upholstery vinyl from my stash and a tweed looking marine vinyl (stash again). I'd been hoarding these two vinyls for a while, and was unsuccessful with pairing them with any of the prints in my collection, so I continued to hide them away. Who knew they'd make such a great vintage inspired bag!
The logo in the middle is HTV (Heat Transfer Vinyl) that I fused to a cotton with two layers of interfacing on the back. I then satin stitched the edges of the applique, to make it more like a military patch. I used a straight stitch to apply it to the main body of the bag prior to construction. Gold hardware and a gold toothed zipper finish off the look. The inside of the bag hides a fun news print cotton, which features headlines that Peggy would have seen during her lifetime. I ended up making two of these, as my friends all wanted one really badly.
