Sorry if my question is stupid, but how did you stitched the separate squares? By knitting or sewing machine?

The squares are sewn together with ALL of those long tail ends on the squares, like this: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Msq_U1C260Y

I sewed the squares together in long columns then sewed the columns to one another.

Ugh, I can imagine... sewing in ends is my least favorite thing about knitting! I can hide my tails in crocheting way easier. Your blanket looks great though and I'm sure your daughter will love it for years to come!
