(Good Ol’ 5-Roses recipe book.)
2 C. Flour
3 tsp. B. Powder
1/2 tsp. Salt

1/2 C. Shortening
1 1/4 C. Sugar
2 Eggs
1 tsp. Vanilla

1 C. Milk

Preheat oven 350* F. Grease pan(s). Gather ingredients, and utensils.

In a small bowl, stir Flour, Baking Powder, and Salt.

In a large bowl, cream Shortening and Sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add Vanilla.

Add dry ingredients alternately with milk, starting and ending with dry ingredients. Blend well.
Pour batter into prepared pan(s).
Bake:
2 Round — 30-35 minutes
1 Oblong — 35-40 minutes
8 or 9” square — 50-60 minutes
Cupcakes (2 dozen) — 20-25 minutes

Cool 10 minutes in pan on rack. Remove to rack to continue cooling. Frost as desired.
Undecided Picture looks like a square! It’s actually an oblong. Huh

It looks more rectangular than square...still delicious looking, especially now that I have done my workout!  I love white cake much better than yellow or even chocolate...mmmm...thanks for sharing!

You’re welcome.
The batter is thicker than a usual cake batter. It rises nicely, though.
I’d never made it before, and the recipe din’t actually say a time for Oblong. So, I put it on for the same time as the 2 round and watched it carefully. It turned out nice.

“Scratch Cake” is quite easy.

The one I thought to be difficult (simply because it’s absurdly expen$ive in cafes and restaurants) was Carrot Cake.

I found a recipe in “Joy of Cooking” when I reached the end of the recipe, I’d thought I must have missed something, because why was it so expen$ive? (Because of the Cream Cheese icing, I discovered)

I have a couple scratch cake recipes on here. They’re all good.
