This ATC is a sewn and glued booklet with a paper badge. The Cat & Dog Girl Scout badge is from the 1947 handbook. It is retired, meaning you can no longer earn this badge.

That is so cool, beyond any sort of ATC level. Very groovy.

That mini ATC booklet and girl scout badge are mighty cool and a great idea for an unconventional and creative ATC project!

Do you know why they retired that particular badge?  A lot of girls have a dog/cat for a pet and being knowledgeable about their care seems like a good thing to encourage and award a badge for.  Maybe they just came up with a more modern, but similar, thing?  I dunno, I see girl/boy scout handbooks every now-and-then, when I'm browsing through the stacks of used children's books at thrift stores, but I've never bought or read one . . . yet.

I hit the rocks button so quickly! I just love the vintage look of the worn cover. How on earth did you do that?

As a cat rescuer, I am wondering if the badge is outdated due to its very nature, regarding the supportive view back then of allowing your pets to have unlimited babies.

I add to the rustic oldness with chalks and water color pencils. I forgot to dye the edges of the inside pages. I think we did the Hobbies and Pets badge in the 80s. I don't have my actual handbooks or sash to know for sure.
