For the Feb science dotee swap, I used a broken down printer as inspiration. My DW needed some teeny screws for a project and so we took apart an old printer. Lot's of little screws, wires, memory boards, gears, bits, bobs, and pieces. It was a fun few hours.

Out of the box of parts crawled this little Golden circuit beetle. Very strange. Apparently, buttons, gears, springs, and so on breed when you aren't looking.

This was so fun to make, trying out all kinds of bits, digging for more, trying to make it look appealing.  Cheesy And trying to get it to hang more or less straight.

Makes you want to take things apart, doesn't it?

I also love this guy Cheesy It is so unique and fun. It's currently hanging over my computer in my home office Smiley Hopefully as a ward against would-be circuit pests?

Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.

I've seen similar steampunk bugs in the past, but those generally incorporate clockwork gears rather than more modern components like your creation, which is a neat change of pace.  The spring with the beads strung along it is particularly interesting, as that also suggests a DNA helix to me.  Great techno-insect creation!
