This project was born from the desire to make my niece a large squishable stuffed toy as a gift. Ever see a pattern and think to yourself, "Hmm, I love this but I wish it was just a little bit bigger..."

Enter, the Ami cat pattern I came across on Pinterest.  I loved the design but not the size. So of course I thought I'd just up the yarn weight to achieve my desired goal.  What did I choose? Bernat blanket yarn of course  Roll Eyes

And the result? A GIANT AMI PILLOW CAT

The thing turned out huge. Like, we had to strap it into the backseat while we traveled. But my niece absolutely adored the thing and insisted it be brought with her into every room she was in.  She also insisted it sleep with her in her tiny toddler bed.  My SIL had trouble discerning her from the cat through the baby monitor.  It was sort of hilarious and perfect.

Here is my niece for true scale

I learned a very valuable lesson in yarn weight differentials through this project and that I really do like making over the top giant things.  Grin

And incase you're wondering, the original pattern called for a 1 weight yarn and I bernat is a 6  Roll Eyes Grin

What an awesome gift! It's adorable, and I imagine it's super cuddly - my son loves that yarn, too.

Other than the yarn weight and hook size, did you follow the pattern exactly?

Thanks Jellybean!

Tendstowardschaos - Thanks!  Yeah, I did follow the pattern exactly and knew halfway through the head that it was going to be massive lol.  I'm lucky I had plenty of leftover recycled stuffing from an 8 ft squid body pillow I sewed up for a friend.   Grin

That's amazing!

how long did it take to make? I never thought of just jumbo sizing a pattern, i would think it would work up almost as quick as a small version! Gotta try this myself!!

Thanks! I think this took about 2 to 3 evenings to work up and one more evening to attach limbs together and add the features, etc. It was certainly quick with the thicker yarn and larger hook.

You can find the pattern I used here for any interested. It's really an adorable stuffed toy Smiley
