I'm a sucker for vintage thermoses and mad for plaid. So you betcha I made another lamp out of a vintage plaid thermos! I bought this little cutie for a sweet price for this purpose almost a year-and-a-half ago and finally got around to making it, because I finally had an idea for a shade.

I did not want the shiny brass hardware that comes with the GE lamp kits, but the kit was the most cost-effective way to get what I needed, so I took them apart as much as necessary to spray paint them black. The paint was supposed to be a flat finish, but the only way this would be flat is if I'd painted a pancake! That said, I can live with it. I do wish they'd had a kit with a brown or black cord. I could've bought an additional cord, but again I was trying to keep the cost down.

Here it is all lit up!

It took me awhile to decide to commit to the destruction for sure.

What a great idea!! It has a fun retro feel but the reuse and shade makes it modern. So cool!

I have a really cool vintage blender I've been saving to make a lamp of but the light will go inside the carafe, no need for a shade. Kinda sad about that now :/.

That will be SO COOL! I am fascinated by making things into lamps (have a big pinboard for THAT, too). I have set aside a stovetop espresso maker that I can't get a replacement part for to make into a lamp, too. Except I don't need a lamp made out of a stovetop espresso maker... and I don't think I know anyone who does!
