I'm making a sweater which has a climbing vines pattern. I'm starting on the left front panel and have the first 8 rows done to establish the vine pattern but now it says "work even pat" until piece measures 8 inches.... how do I work even when the pattern decreases?? I am a beginner but this pattern was "deceptively simple"  thanks in advance!
CO 26 (28, 30, 34, 36, 40, 42) sts.

Row 1 (RS): Knit.

Row 2 and all WS rows: K2, purl to end.

Row 3: Ssk, knit to last 22 sts, work Row 1 of Foliage Lace pat, k225 (27, 29, 33, 35, 39, 41) sts.

Row 5: Ssk, knit to last 22 sts, work Row 3 of Foliage Lace pat, k224 (26, 28, 32, 34, 38, 40) sts..

Row 7: Ssk, knit to last 22 sts, work Row 5 of Foliage Lace pat, k223 (25, 27, 31, 33, 37, 39) sts.

Work even pat until piece measures 8"/20 cm; end with a WS row.

Without seeing it, my best guess is to keep working those rows, but without the decreases. Could you link to the sweater, or share a photo?

Work even means no incs or decs; the decreases in the lace pattern don't count because the increases offset them, the stitch count may change every row and at the end of the pattern repeat rows, you will have the amount of stitches.
