We've lived in our house for almost 20 years and had the same neighbours on one side.  We've gotten to know their children and grandchildren over the years and their two granddaughters enjoy visiting to see my current quilt projects.

This summer, the youngest (11) got brave enough to ask if I would make her a donkey quilt.  A donkey. I thought Huh  Yup, that's her favourite animal and that's what she wanted.  She even went online and found the one she wanted but it was only a picture so, with some counting and figuring, I came up with a pattern and made it.  She LOVED it.

Then I offered to make her sister (13) a quilt and she said her favourite animal was a tiger.  I knew exactly where to find a pattern for that and headed to Quilt Art Designs.  She LOVED it too.

While I had no problem giving the donkey away, it was much harder to part with the tiger.

The tiger quilt is definitely the superior product out of the pair, but they're both cool and it was incredibly generous of you to make them for your neighbor's granddaughters.  For a bit of fun, you could have made the donkey's tail as a separate piece that could be detached/reattached via velcro, and then you would have had a fabric pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey game too!

Sorry, I love the donkey. The tiger is more involved, and I LOVE the highs/lows. But the colors and the layout of the donkey wins. I love the simple lines. The shape. Yeah, that's nice.

And I imagine the little being brave enough to ask [nicely] for what she wants. Also, I freakin love donkeys.

MareMare! Ha!'...on point'.  <- I see what you did there!
