Every year our family adds a special ornament to our Christmas tree that commemorates something related to the past year. In 2016, my husband found a hamster & her cage abandoned by a dumpster. Naturally we adopted her!

We named her Ruby Rey Oatmeal Pudge, because we couldn't agree on one name. So everyone in our family got to name her. She quickly became a cherished family pet. I tried to find a hamster ornament for last year, but didn't like any of the ones I found, so I made one.

Sadly, Ruby passed away a week ago. We had her for a little over a year. Every time we hang this ornament on the tree we'll remember how much we loved her & how lucky we were to have her in our lives!

That's adorable.  I can't believe someone would just dump an animal like that.  (well I can, I just don't want to).
I had a hamster with those colors before.  he was a cute little thing.

There's not much in this world that can't be improved by either chocolate, bacon or glitter.

I hear the story and I makes me not like people.

Then I find out you made him a little family member and it makes me curb check myself for all the good souls. Thank you for saving him and making such a wonderful memorial!

That's sad. My daughter's first pet was a hamster. Over the years we've had three or four of them. I love hamsters. That was obviously a hamster given to a child where the adult couldn't see it as anything more than a rodent. Sad face. Even my mother ended up loving our hamster. Spoil the thing rotten and stuck fresh veggies in her cage every single day.

I'm happy you found her and loved her. I'm sad for your loss.

The ornament is adorable.
