Hello!  I've had a huge issue that I need some help with.  The acrylic paint on my pieces keeps getting runny/smudges when I varnish!

After I bake the clay, I paint with acrylic paint or Posca Acrylic Markers.  When the paint has completely dried, I finish with a water-based polyurethane varnish.  I've noticed that if I dip the pieces into the clay and remove, they are less likely to get smudged.  However, the paint sometimes still runs if I've used to much paint.  If I try to glaze with a paintbrush directly on the painted parts, it definitely gets smudged.

I've seen many other artists glaze after painting, and I can't really find any other topics about this.  Does anyone have suggestions/tips?  Perhaps it is the Posca Acrylic markers or the brand of varnish I'm using?

Please provide any input you may have!  This has been driving me nuts Sad

Edit: FYI I'm using FIMO clay.
