The first in a series of 5 or 6 junk journals I'm making and giving away (some are surprises and some are requests) using Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books. I do collect these but I like the non-shiny covers - 1965 I think? Anyway, these were free or about to be recycled so I rescued them.

For a friend, Jana, who is going through some stuff....

The inside is covered in fabric after I reinforced the spine with sticky-back canvas.

And the pages are the usual - security envelopes, scrapbook scraps, card stock, vintage book pages, et cetera.

These are fun! I bought some old children's books because I loved the covers. I wasn't sure what to do with them but I think this is such a neat idea. I may try it!! How do you get the pages to stay in?

I punch 3 holes into the spine, attach grommets and sew in the pages. I use a Bind-It-All Big Bite which allows me to punch holes in the middle of things. It has a 6-inch reach. You can use a screw punch (this only costs about $8.) You can use an awl, too, but it's much more labor intensive and the holes are narrower.
