I made this hoop for Acadian Driftwood in the Filled Stitchy Swap.

Her list of interests included sea creatures, rainbow colors, and shades of blue, so I decided to go with a fish theme and went hunting for ideas on pinterest.  I absolutely fell in love with the layout of this art piece: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/504121752017767994/  so I decided to make a rainbow applique version of that design.

Here are a few progress photos:

This is after just cutting out the fish.  Even that step took several hours - I am SUCH a slow crafter!  Thank goodness for Netflix, and patient partners! ;P

Next I stitched each fish on.

Normally I tie off each thread every time I rethread my needle, but I didn't want to flip the hoop over and mess up the layout, so I just left all the ends until I was finished attaching the fish, and then tied them all off at once.  Fortunately this didn't come back to bite me. ;P

Finally, here are a few evenings' worth of embellishment progress:

Partway through I was starting to despair of ever finishing, but when I finally got it done I was super happy with how it turned out! In fact, when I posted it to facebook my aunt wanted to buy it! ;P  I told her it was for a swap, so it's spoken for.  But I really really like this piece and am tempted to try some other versions, maybe with different animals... Sadly I'm not so great at spacial reasoning and layout so the design part is a lot harder for me, but if anyone wants to help me design the layout for a similar pattern, but with eels or octopuses, let me know!! ;P

Thanks so much, everyone!! Smiley

And lindyv321, thanks for the link! I hadn't even known that was a thing, but since hoops are absolutely one of my favorite crafts lately, I'm totally getting in on that! XD
