I saw a post about the next TM Patch swap starting soon and then realized that I hadn't posted my last batch.

I fell in love with the multimedia pieces of Cori Dantini, (you can find her on Etsy and IG), a while back. So when my partner listed owls, I knew exactly what I was going to do. It was awesome bringing this guy to life. What was interesting about this guy though, is that Sharalee originally posted his back and everyone thought it was his front! (You can see that here!) I went with a wider border and just did a running stitch around. I am always trying to switch it up with my borders. I try to stitch something appropriate or will help to highlight the patch.

I used Sharalee's hairdressing theme for the other patch. I found the quote with a pic I wasn't too fond of; so I found a stencil of Marilyn and used that. I think it turned out pretty good.

Now I made the mistake of thinking I could just have one partner. Fortunately, craftylittlemonkey was willing to help me out and become my unofficial partner. When I asked what she would like me to make, she told me that she would like me to make something that I like, in my style. Which immediately prompted an existential crisis. I had no idea what I liked and I had no idea what my style was...so what the heck am I going to make?!?!?! I freaked out for about a day before settling on the below.

This is a selfie my daughter took with me. It's one of my favorite pictures of us. This is really only maybe my second portrait, so I am seeing I really need to work on this skill. I made the border stitching to simulate (somewhat) a flash. I original was going to use yellow; but this gorgeous variegated thread I have matched the backing fabric perfectly. So how could I not use it!?!?

This is not the first time I have stitched up Calvin and Hobbes. It's one of my most favorite images of them though. It really matches the irreverent tone I sometimes strike in my life. I felt the mustache fabric was a perfect frame and made it extra wide. Originally I was going to stitch around some of the mustaches; but I didn't like how it looked. So I decided to go for a sort of "invisible" binding by using a red that matched and merely stitched each inside edge.

And this is not TM patch related; but I was asked to embroider a hanky to be included in the Mother's Day basket that was raffled off at work. I'm kind of eh about how it turned out. It was a lot of work. Life reminded me to be nice to people by having the basket go to a lady at work who really does not like me. I have other hankies that are awaiting stitching (I had to buy them in a pack.) I hope to use them some day. Or maybe I'll send them as extras!

Isn't it funny how crazy we all went for the back of that owl patch? LOL, a sign of excellent embroidery indeed!
They are all so fabulous. I am trying to resist swaps at the moment but the next round of TM patches is coming up and dang it, this post just pushed me over the edge. I'll join again, who could resist when there are offerings like this in the gallery? Not I!

Beautiful job on all the pieces. I really love the owl character you have created! Great colors on him and a good variety of stitches.

Re your embroidered hanky, I think it is very pretty, there is nothing "eh" about it. Think of it this way, Life is also reminding your coworker to appreciate your talent.

I like Kit-Kat, unless I'm with 4 or more people.
