I joined the MAQ swap and made my lovely partner a chickens art quilt.  Smiley

I paperpieced the chickens. When I finished them, I played around with the design. I like two chick facing and two with their tooshie together  Wink

Then I wasn't satisfied with it because it looked like they're stacked upon eachother.
After adding some burlap I thought it looks more like their on their nest.

I didn't have enough grasgreen to add to the sides, so I added some fabric with yellow (like hay and their nest) at the bottom and greens and browns in the middle and top, like grass and trees.

The wings of the chickens have some batting with zigzag stitches, to make it look like feathers.
The chickens have also extra batting, so they pop out. I like the effect!

There's not much quilting done after this, it would undo my extra batting of the chickens. But because the chickens are paperpieced, I think it really looks quilted enough.
Added some seed beads as eyes and that's it. Oh my label on the backside of course  Cheesy

I had lots of fun creating this quilt. It was challenging and I liked it a lot!  Cheesy
Here you can see one of the failures haha:

The first chicken I made was a failure. I didn't use it, because the fabric didn't work for this pattern. Too much pattern going on, it makes it hard to see it is a chicken. I will probably make a pot holder out of this.  Wink

I adore these chickens! And I enjoy the quirky placement, that's pretty much how higgeldy piggeldy roosting bok boks are in real life Cheesy.
I have to disagree with your assessment of that first piece, I think the colours are GREAT! I hope you will do something with that lonely chicken, I would like to see it finished as a ... something Smiley.

I like Kit-Kat, unless I'm with 4 or more people.

Everything about your chicken MAQ is wonderful! Adding extra batting to make the hens raised is a great effect, and the burlap nests are perfect.

Thanks ladies!
I used the colours my partner likes most. Glad I have a lot of that in my stash  Cheesy

Yes, chickens are totally like that! Catching that in a quilt was a challenge, it are straight lines.

I must admit that seeing it now, it looks more like a chicken than when I had just finished it haha  Tongue It is okay, I will use it for something. Maybe a mini-mini quilt  Grin
I thought it is a good thing to show that mistaking while crafting is part of learning and more than okay!  Smiley

Thank you!

Yes, clm, it would make a pretty potholder. I will leave it for now, inspiration will hit some day when I need a chicken for something I'm creating. Usually it works like that for me.  Smiley

I am the lucky person this MAQ was made for! I really love it, I like the chickens and indeed, they really have personalities with their different colour combinations. And chickens definitely do have personalities! I like the fifth one too. It's not a craft disaster to me, but I get what you mean. There's a lot more pattern / colour in that one. I like the burlap too. I like the 3D effect and it really has the right texture for straw. Yours was mailed yesterday (forgot to PM that, will do that now Smiley ) so I hope you receive it before you leave.
