This is what the towels look finished

First trim the towels and gather the tops.

Then cut 2 toppers from cotton fabric of choice. Sew right sides together, clip, turn and press.
Sew the towel to one side of the topper, right sides together. Then turn under.

Finger press the other side under 1/4" and line up with stitched line on towel. Sew the 3 layers together 1/8" from edge.
Next is the cut out. I machine embroidered a rectangle, but you can Zig Zag around your desired opened like a large button hole. Mine are about 2 cm, but I feel it's a little too wide.
