Flying key block, PDF pattern added!

The lovely Mistress Jennie offered to send me a pussy hat in exchange for a surprise. After stalking a bit I settled on a pouch with a flying key design a la Harry Potter.


I couldn't find a pattern I liked for free or even for sale so I thought I'd try my hand at drafting one myself. I am very new to paper piecing but I do have a fashion design background which includes pattern drafting. Even so, it's tricky with a bunch of fiddly little bits that were really hard for me to get just right.


Paper piecing is CRAZY!


I've been waiting to share this until MJ got the little pouch I made her but it looks like it's been lost in the mail so I'll be resending it soon. I'm bummed 'cause I think the zipper turned out great. Ah well, good practice for next time, right? Yay, the first pouch finally made it after an adventure through the postal system. It is a flying key after all, ha ha. In the meantime I sent this replacement so now she's got a matching set.


I sent the pattern off to a few people here to beta test and it came back with the A-ok so I will be happy to share it with you guys once I've figured out how to attach a PDF file. I sent a query off and hopefully will hear back about that soon . am very happy to share it with you here. Click on the PDF to copy it into your files and give it a go! It seems to be upside down but it will print just fine. Please let me know if you stitch it up and how it went, feed back is appreciated!

I squared the bottom of this one & the zipper turned out great!

It was my second time stitching the block & it turned out better than the first one so all's well that ends well .

Beautiful work, CLM! Paper piecing is so counter-intuitive - you're so brave to draft your own pattern. And you nailed it!

Is that Indigo-dyed shibori fabric by any chance?
