I knoooow I've made a number of needle-felted foxes in the past already (all listed with the last fox I posted), but I just about always jump on the opportunity to make another. And somehow they always come out incredibly different! So the first one I have to share today was made for cackle when we did the Invite-Your-Partner Swap (R29). I previously made giant hare in the Make a Friend Swap (R11), and decided the hare needed a foxy friend after cackle commented on the above mentioned last fox. So! What kind of foxy friend would a giant felted hare need? Of course a giant felted fox. This was a bigger undertaking than I expected, and I... accidentally... made the fox a bit bigger than the hare. It was pretty fun to make though Smiley

Cat for scale!

Face for more scale!

And after all this fox-felting, one of my best friends requested a fox of his own to send to his British cousin in some complicated exchange for a pretty lovely pair of beer glassed from England. So how many foxes are we at now? I've lost count.

EDIT:

OH! I also realized I never posted this fox from July of 2013! Poor guy... You can see I've definitely evolved in my felting techniques. He was inspired by a piece of art I foudn long ago of a polka dotted fox, and was given to deathbeforedishes in the Make-A-Friend Swap (R10)

I love both those foxes, but am particularly smitten with the first one especially it's tail.  I love the mottled effect it looks fantastic!

Thanks! I'm trying to work in some more realistic techniques into my felting. The size of the the big fox made some of the armature and sculpting really challenging. I added three underbelly frames to him during felting to stabilize his legs. Lesson learned: always go for a heavier armature than you think you need? Or something like that. It's tough to add one after you already started felting.

Also, edited to add a veeeerrry old fox I made, just to get the tally up to 7 foxes felted in my crafting-lifetime, and all now shared on Craftster Tongue

I love them all, they are each a beautiful creature. The fluff is so awesome, don't you just want to rub those bellies? Ooh, cute!

For the longest time, I referred to it as a "Cat-Sized Fox" Tongue It took a lot of wool though. I don't think I could make anything much bigger than that without needing a house-full of wool Cheesy Although, my cats are pretty small, so that might be a little deceiving Wink

I think I've seen a pretty thick armature with only a thin layer of roving over top... maybe it was yarn wrapped first, I'd have to look in my photo files to see if I saved it...

WOW! The realism in your projects is phenomenal. I am particularly fond of the fluffy ears, but that spotted fox sure is cute.

Ha - so right.  There's a BIG difference in the size of your cats and the size of my cats.
You'd probably need twice as much wool to make a fox the size of mine.
