I help to run our student council at my school, and every year, we try to add to our stockpile of decorations. This year, our dance was held 2 days after Valentine's Day, and I forgot to get prizes for the dance-off and the limbo contest, so I headed to Target in the hope that I would find some stuff on clearance. Not only did I get enough prizes, I also bought a bunch of themed items to turn into some decorations-50% off!

A variety of felt hearts, plus some chipboard X's and O's (I had the yarn in my classroom already).

I grabbed a glue gun from the cabinet and borrowed some glue sticks, and got to work...

I stretched out a piece of yarn, applied a line of glue to the back of each item, and stretched the yarn out in the glue.

We used them to decorate the columns in the cafeteria. They look a little plain because we didn't have enough crepe paper streamers to wrap around the poles (next year!).

Then, one of my student council kids popped in to see if I needed help with anything, so I had her help me out with the heart garland. She set up the hearts the way she liked, and I glued them to the yarn. Some of them are double layered hearts, which I also glued together.

The kids strung the garland up along the stacked up cafeteria tables. Next year, I think we'll add some twinkle lights to brighten it up a little!

I got all of the decorations for under $5, and we used every piece we had! We've got them all saved for next year Smiley

Thank you! They didn't show up well in the big cafeteria space, but at least it was better than nothing Smiley

LOL! Thanks! And, I think I'll be checking out the clearance section every year now to get stuff for our dances. I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner!

Thanks! I wont be using them this year, however. Were planning to have a Snow Ball instead, which will hopefully just be 8th graders.
