Hello,
I have a project in mind, but it's a little more advanced that I am, so I am seeking help!

Project: Make a tote bag to carry my flute/case and music books in. I want to make a fairly wide tote bag with a divider going the short way so that my flute case stands up at one end of the bag and is separated from the books.
I have several tuts on how to make the tote bag, but....

Question: how do I made the divider. All tuts I find are to make a divider that go length wide in the bag, like for a laptop. I want this one the be short and connect the front and back of the bag, not side to side ..... does this make sense? ... It doesn't even have to connect to the bottom of the bag, just the sides to hold the flute case upright and keep the books separated so the corners dont get bent and banged up.

I would stitch it to the lining before assembling the bag.  Stitch one end to the lining, then fold over and topstitch for strength.  Repeat on the other side, then do the lining side seams etc.
