I recently completed my first refinishing box. I refinished the silverware chest for my family flatware set with a Sailor Moon/Imperium Silver Crystal design.

Here's what it looked like before I got started. Not too bad looking for a box from the 1930s. I started by giving the whole box a good sand, then I painted a darker eucalyptus tone of paint and added a lighter antique sky color over it. I gave the box another sand to give it a weathered/two tone look, then added the stencilled designs.

Once all the paint was dried, I added metal filigree corners and claw feet. Then, I weathered the corners and feet with a little paint and sanding, and finally coated the box with clear wax.

I used some store bought stencils and made some using my Silhouette Curio. I really like how it turned out! It's part of my effort to add nerdy touches to our surroundings. We're going to have some more blatantly nerdy pieces (I eventually want to make a giant Chocobo head to go over out mantle), but I feel like subtle designs like this are good too. We don't even have our own place yet, so small projects like this are easier for me anyway. Hopefully we'll have our own space in late summer.

You can read my more detailed blog post about this project here: http://www.appledainty.com/projects/home-goods/silver-millennium-silverware-chest/ if you're interested. Smiley

Nice work.  I especially like the feet that you added.  It doesn't look like the same box that you started with, which is a compliment to your transformation
