Last night the women in my church group got together to try something new. A teacher came and taught them how to paint a tree with cherry blossoms. This project would have been too easy foe, and in the spirit of stretching and getting out of our comfort zones, I thought I'd try something new, for myself.
I've never painted in the impressionistic style. My art teachers have always told me that I work too tightly, and that I need to loosen up. This project made me feel anxious. I had to walk away from it 3 times to calm my heart.
Today, when I picked it up again, I felt anxious again. The colors I'd mixed last night were different. The lighting was different. But, I kept at it. I put it down twice and walked away from it, and finally finished after picking up the kids from school.
The models are my two daughters, 21 months apart, they've been raised like twins. They share everything, and can't imagine being apart for any length of time. I wanted to capture their love for one another, and didn't care too much about the likeness, since they are growing up so fast. But, I managed to get their likenesses as well.  Something I didn't think was possible when working so loosely.

Lovely portrait of your daughters; you should get it framed!  Did your girls actually sit as models or did you work from a photograph (I prefer still shots as my models when I do portraits because they never move on me)?

I like Kit-Kat, unless I'm with 4 or more people.

Wow this is amazing!  You definitely captured that dreamy quality often found in impressionism.  I also enjoy the colors and sense of movement you've used in the background as well!

I agree with onyxnox - I hope you explore this further, I think you've a talent for it Wink

I used a candid shot from my phone. This was the first day of school. The painting hangs above the full size bed they share.

Well you've managed to capture a lovely portrait of your daughters in this new style for you!  How did you like it after getting further into your piece?
