When I decided to participate  in an annual ornament gift exchange with a group of my internet friends I returned to one of my favorite mediums---felt---& decided to make mermaids.  I began by drawing her on paper---Free clip-art is great for ideas on this step. I added a seam allowance & printed several copies.  I cut the different pattern pieces I needed from each copy.  I only needed 3 pieces for her but find this method the best when I need a large number of pattern pieces.  I sewed & stuffed all but her tailfin, glued on her hair, gems & shells, & finished the details with paint pens.  When hanging, she's about 7" to the bottom of her tailfin.  Hubby was given the task of choosing which one I kept for us---the orange with yellow gold hair.  The others were well received by all of my friends.

These are great!

I love working with felt; it has an old-fashioned charm and simplicity.

My husband always gets first choice from my annual ornaments.  He's my BEST friend!

I like Kit-Kat, unless I'm with 4 or more people.

Wonderful school of felt mermaids (are groups of mermaids even called schools?  I have no idea)!  I'm a gonna go with the two emerald-hued lasses on the top left and right as my favorites, as that hue makes me think of seaweed, kelp, etc. (and they also remind me of She-Hulk).
