This is a hoop I made for JoyfulClover in the Robots and Aliens Swap.  It's based on this pin: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/481040803933759562/  - an artist's rendition of Samus, the bounty hunter protagonist of the Metroid video game series.

After the Bride of Frankenstein hoop I made a while back, I was really excited to try another nerdy retro lady (I feel like starting a series!), but I'm still much more comfortable with the applique than with the embroidery.

Here are a few progress shots:
Cut cut cut...

Stitch 'em on...

And begin embellishing:

This picture is about as far as I got while still more or less in my comfort zone.  Then it came time to do the face, which always intimidates me.  And not without reason.  My first attempt was... less successful.

...What.
I would have been more dismayed with this if it hadn't made me laugh for an embarrassingly long time.  But I decided I couldn't just settle for this, and spent the next hour removing the mouth.

Then I added a new mouth, which came out not only in the right place but much more nicely shaped anyway, and after finally dotting a few little stitched stars across the background, I was done!! Whew!!

Yay! This is mine! I gushed in the gallery and am so happy she received her own thread. The progress shots are the bomb dot com.  Now I want to make a felt applique hoop of my own. Very inspiring.

I love this, thank you for sharing the original inspiration... may have to do something with this for my husband, Metroid is one of his top 3 favorite video games!

I like Kit-Kat, unless I'm with 4 or more people.

Oh, that is excellent. The face is a winner, totally worth the time to work it out.
