We have my partners children g,11 & 7 every other weekend, and I wanted to make a really special bedroom for them so they feel they have their own space here, that's it's not 'Dads' house, it's 'their' house.
Before, it had an ikea bunk bed in, which was rickety, ugly - and made the space awkward. If it had been wood, I'd of worked with it, but.... I found two divan beds on Freecycle, including mattresses. So that began the project!
The divan's had to be sawn in two to get up the stairs!
Here it is as I initially finished it - now I have made lots of changes, they have gallery walls next to their beds, filled with photos and their artwork, a yellow wicker toy chest (rather than the purple open shelves) and a chest of drawers.
If they ever tidy the room, I'll update the photos!
I repainted all the walls white, as they were rental-yellow
Then I started putting on the yellow and blue. (Their favourite colours)
It made the room look so bright and cheerful!
I wanted to make black, back-lit heard boards with their initials on. I designed them, and my partner cut them out with a jigsaw. (I'm going to do a separate post for that, I think!)
I was really pleased with how they turned out.
Because my partner did such an amazing job cutting the letters, we could use the cut outs in the room! hey are now hanging on the door
I made this beanie Baby shelf with old strips of wood from a bed base! It eventually broke
Because they have no space for a bed side table, I made these 'end tables' with old crates, and we painted them their favourite colours.
I painted the inside of the wardrobe doors with chalk paint, then decorated them with a mixture of white acrylic and chalk pens.
My OH also sanded down and painted this desk for them.

Terrible!!
They were completely dumbstruck, giggling, hugging - so, SO worth it!
