The ManFlesh is getting his first novel published and it comes out next February (2017), so I am making him this suit for a publicity cosplay-style photo shoot. I started with the smallest piece with the fewest steps and halfway through I thought to myself, "What have I gotten myself into?"

That said, I'm super pleased with how the vest turned out and am going to go ahead and post it to keep up my morale! I found this paisley in the vintage prints section of a large fabric store and it goes really nicely with the brown check I got for the suit itself.

:/

Just plain mid-weight cotton for the back and lining. I am forever cutting hardware and notions off of things we are getting rid of, so I already had the D-rings.

Last year I "inherited" my family's button box! It has at least 4, possibly 5, generations of saved and extra buttons in it. These shell buttons, that may well be from the period in which the book takes place (late 1870s)! I had to find new cotter pins for them, because I made the vest washable and the shell buttons are not. It was fun and nerve racking to make double the button holes in order to use them. Wink

Next week I will start the pants. Wish me luck!

Thanks, all! I'll definitely be posting the suit parts as I finish as well. Plus some other things I am making for the photo shoot. You haven't heard the last of me!

If it's OK to say here, the book comes out in the US on Feb 7.

I like Kit-Kat, unless I'm with 4 or more people.

I'd say you mastered that pattern. The vest is awesome! Your inherited buttons look great. Congrats again to The ManFlesh!

Thanks so much everyone! This afternoon I cleared out a big space in the auxiliary guest room/craft room/writing room and separated all the rest of the pattern pieces by jacket/pants/tie. Tomorrow I'll do a few other measurements to be sure about the size and then cut out the pants! I'm so nervous about it. I bought the material in another state in Sept so can't get more and really don't want to pay for more AT ALL.  Undecided

The vest is beautiful and I am sure the rest will be just as nice.  Congrats to the Manflesh for getting a novel published!  Looking forward to seeing the rest of the suit.
