I had an empty clean glass jar. I had just finished using some fresh birch leaves from my garden to do shadows with pastels for a small art journal page. My hobby glue stick was near, so I decided to glue on some leaves see if they stick, added 1/2 inch layer of birdcage sand to the jar and a tealight. Looks nice for a luminaria. The candlelight shines nicely through the leaves, spaced about 1 cm apart of each other. Can be used outside too.

This is a sweet idea, and I love the touches of nature that you incorporated.  I've used jars with feed corn instead of sand, then added a votive or a non-flame tealight for centerpieces.  Your project sounds much more cozy and inviting.  I'd love to see a pic your creation.
