Howdy y'all!
This is my favorite Crochet Sugar Skull pattern, I've made coasters, a scarf, and a hat with this same pattern.  Now I'm going to make this into garland to hang at work.
If you'd like to play along with our home game here's the pattern for ya!  (these work up SO quick)
I used an I hook, I wanted them a little larger they're about 5 inches across, change up your hook size to suit your preference
ch-chain
sc-single crochet
hdc-half double crochet
dc-double crochet
sk-skip

Off we go!!!
ch 12, slip stitch into first chain

ch 13, slip stitch into 12th chain from hook, leave one chain between loops (this is the base for your eyes)

ch 1, sc in chain between eyes
Place 20 sc into circle (in the circle, not in the individual chains)

sc in bottom of middle stitch (between eyes)
Place 20 sc in 2nd circle (do not join, keep working in the round)

2 dc in next stitch
dc in next 3
hdc in next 2
sc in next 7
hdc in next 2
dc in next 2

ch 2
skip next 9 stitches (goes up one side and down the other) (this creates the nasal cavity)

dc into 10th stitch
dc in next stitch
hdc in next 2
sc in next 7
hdc in next 2
dc in next 3
JOIN!

(Do you see the face taking shape???)
ch 3
dc in next 3
hdc in next 4
sc in next 4
hdc in next 3
dc in next 3
place 4 dc in ch 4 space
dc in next 3
hdc in next 3
sc in 4
hdc in next 4
dc in next 4
slip stitch into top of chain 3
break yarn

Now to make the teeth!
find center below nasal cavity and count 4 stitches off center

join yarn and ch 4, sk 1 stitch
dc in next stitch, ch 1, sk 1
dc in next stitch, ch 1, sk 1
dc in next stitch, ch 1, sk 1
dc in next stitch, ch 1, sk 1 (you should have 4 teeth)

TURN
ch 4, sk 1 stitch
dc in top of dc from previous row, ch 1, sk 1
dc in top of dc from previous row, ch 1, sk 1
dc in top of dc from previous row, ch 1, sk 1
dc in top of dc from previous row, ch 1, sk 1
Break yarn and fasten off!

If you wish you can change the color of the yarn for an extra pop of color (I work in my loose ends from the main skull portion during this part)
attach your yarn here

and ch 1 then work 1 sc around entire piece, placing 1 sc in the side stitches of the teeth and the sides of the double crochets catching loose ends in your stitches.  Break yarn and weave in loose end.

Embellish as you like, I added roses from this AMAZING tutorial (her leaves are also top notch!)

Go make a bunch!!!
Other things I've made with this same base:

I took classes in August to learn to crochet. Unfortunately, with my being left-handed, I had to go home and hit YouTube after every class. The one that helped the most was crochetguru.com. She has lessons in order of how it's probably easiest to learn.

Is there a pattern I missed for the skull hat?

NoShowJr  unfortunately there is no pattern for the hat and it now lives of if state with a friend and if course I "winged it" and didn't take pictures or notes

The crochet crowd on YouTube is also amazing for left handed instructions

I am ambidextrous but I definitely crochet right handed

I like Kit-Kat, unless I'm with 4 or more people.

Aw nuts.  Sad

I looked at that site too, but I liked the organization of the Crochet Guru site a little more for starting out.  Plus, I had to print out all of the lessons to be able to carry a notebook with me in case we got to something I didn't know was going to be covered in class!
