I made this hoop for LeapFeetFirst for the Stitched Mandala Swap.

I recently took Alisa Burke's Mandala Magic class online. Other than doodling, drawing is not one of my strong points, so I was excited to put the techniques from the class to the test for this swap. Here's is my original sketch:

I did lose some detail when I transferred the design over to thread and fabric, but I ended up deciding I liked the additional space that was preserved. The middle circle of the design uses the Rebel Alliance symbol from Star Wars (gotta love hidden geekery), and I think it comes through a bit more with the stitched design.

Because I hid the Rebel Alliance symbol in the mandala, I was trying to think of a clever name for most of my stitching time. No appropriate Star Wars quotes came to mind, but the song "Rebel, Rebel" by David Bowie kept getting stuck in my head, so that became the name. Here's a shot of the back with the label:

Though I think the back of the stitching actually looks kind of cool as well:

For a bonus, I drew another mandala on the card I sent along with the hoop:

I want to put mandalas everywhere now! Thanks for looking!

The hidden "Rebel" is cool. And the back of it is so neat looking! Great job.  Cheesy

This caught my eye on the home page, and I just love it! I love the subtle geekiness of it, and I love the black on white mandala. I just took a Zendala class, and I was thinking about how well it would translate to embroidery. After seeing your piece, I am definitely adding an embroidered Zendala to my to-do list!

Your stitch is considerably super neat!!! I love your drawing though even though you are so humble to claim yourselves that you are not so keen with it. I love it. How could you create this pattern from? The Zendala class taught you how to make it, don't they? I am just wondering how can I find this type of pattern from. The back of it is quite pretty and you also stitch the name instead of printing it. I amaze your patience and artistic talent!!

Share me more idea. I am one of your followers now. Wink Wink Wink Smiley Smiley

Thanks guys! I was unsure about the lack of color, so you're making me feel better about it.

I will have to check out zendalas, now, craftADDchick.

maisoncraft, yes, the Mandala Magic class by Alisa Burke gave me a lot of tips and tricks to get me started. Check it out!

They should be a piece of cake for you, especially since you have mandala skills under your belt!
